Canon Point: Chapter 8
Background: summary of the game as well as laura's part in it

Personality: Laura is, first an foremost, an incredibly bright and independent young woman. She's the sort of person who already has her whole future planned out, from which veterinarian school she'll be attending and which classes she and her boyfriend Max should be taking when they get there. She's quick to support people when they need it but just as likely to point out when someone isn't looking at the big picture and use tough love to point out when they're wrong.

She's also incredibly stubborn, though, and less willing to admit her own mistakes. Rather than do that she tends to find a way around them, a way to make the situation work for her in the moment. When she and Max are imprisoned by Travis Hackett, it's her idea to play nice with him and try to get on his good side and she tends to just bully Max into going along with it.

There is also a tendency in her to be a little ruthless. She doesn't seem bothered at all by the fact that she's already killed one person and intends to kill more in order to cure Max of his werewolf curse and when she's met with resistance about her plans her response is usually just "I hear what you're saying but here's why you're wrong." She's never confrontational about her plans, but the way she lays them out leaves no room for discussion.

Weaknesses/Temptations: Laura's biggest weakness is definitely Max and her biggest temptation is finding a cure for him.

- prison escape
- property damage

Log:

As hard as she tries not to think about it, the decision to become a murderer was one that Laura didn't have to think too hard on to make. It helps, she knows, that she's never actually met Chris Hackett and that this summer was going to be her first one working at Hackett's Quarry. There's no relationship built up there, she doesn't have to think about betraying him, about how his face might fall when she comes at him with her shotgun. It's easy.

And that's what makes it so troubling. It shouldn't be so easy to decide to take a human life and yet, when she has to weigh Max against a stranger, it's no contest. Max comes first and as selfish as that is, she just can't find it in herself to care after two months of being locked up in a jail cell.

But still... She might have known she'd kill Chris Hackett or any Hackett that was stupid enough to get her in way, but when she finds out that the one Hackett she did manage to shoot was his daughter, a girl not that much older than her, it's only later when she's on her own that Laura really takes a second to think about that. Yes, she'd been in werewolf form at the time, but she'd been running. She hadn't been trying to attack, it'd been Laura who was chasing her down to finish her off after that first shot had gone too wide to do the job.

And then she'd been too much of a coward to stick around and watch her turn back after the job was done, to stay there and wait and see that it was Chris Hackett face down in the pool.

"Whatever," she sighs out to herself, sitting up a little in the sand and looking back out over the ocean. In hell. On Hell Beach Island, she's finally taking the time to let the guilt settle over her for what she'd done.

Sort of, anyway. If she had to make the same choice again, if it came down to Kaylee Hackett or Max... Well. She knows what choice she'd make.
